The Delhi Government and the Ministry of Water Power have created a new model for cleaning the Yamuna river. It is being said under this model that the water of Yamuna river will become potable before the next Lok Sabha elections. Home Minister Amit Shah will inspect the Yamuna cleaning project. This is an ambitious campaign of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The third phase of cleaning the Yamuna river is still going on. Cleaning the river basin is going on using machines and it will be completed soon. It has been reported that after this the floor of the river will be cleaned through dragging, so that the flow of water in the river remains constant.

STPs will be made soon to clean the water flowing from the drains. The process of issuing tenders for this STP is in the final stages. The dirty water of drains in STP will be cleaned and treated before falling into the Yamuna, so that harmful chemicals and dirt can be separated from it. 500 volunteers are also being appointed for cleaning the Yamuna. These volunteers will work to prevent people from throwing garbage and religious materials in Yamuna. 9 hours of cleaning work is being done in Yamuna daily. 140 cubic meters of water is being wasted daily. Water bodies have been cleaned at many places including Wazirabad Bridge and Sonia Vihar. Trace skimmers, robotic traces and exacwers are being used for this.

As soon as the BJP government is formed in Delhi, the central government showed seriousness about the cleanliness of the Yamuna and the paperwork has started. Along with this, machines were also removed in Yamuna. According to sources, the Union Ministry of Water Power has started working in mission mode as per the instructions of Prime Minister Modi. The work of cleaning the Yamuna has also started on a war footing. Under the Yamuna Clean Project, aquatic life is being removed from the part of the Yamuna flowing in Delhi using machines. A period of 45 days has been set to remove aquatic life. Of these, 20 days work has also been completed.

Hydropower Minister C.R. Patil himself is constantly monitoring in this regard by holding constant meetings. However, coordination and necessary instructions/advice between the Delhi government and the central government are being done by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Last week, Home Minister Amit Shah held a meeting with the Ministry of Water Power and the Government of Delhi on the Yamuna cleaning, in which the works on the Yamuna cleaning project were reviewed so far and the future outline was discussed.
