Stavanger, Norway—World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen demonstrated his superiority by defeating Indian No. 2 Arjun Erigaisi in the endgame. According to a release from Norway Chess, the Norwegian superstar, who had lost two Armageddon matches in the previous two rounds, left a big impression with this victory at home.

The American was in the lead for much the whole match between World Champion Dommaraju Gukesh and World No. 3 Fabiano Caruana, with enough of opportunities to win.

However, Gukesh’s exceptional defensive abilities prevented him from converting his advantage. The Armageddon game was then decisively won by Gukesh.

The classical phase of the match between Chinese sensation Wei Yi and world No. 2 Hikaru Nakamura ended in an entertaining and hard-fought tie. Wei Yi won the crucial extra points in the Armageddon tiebreaks and eventually prevailed.

At Norway Chess Women, Anna Muzychuk and Koneru Humpy share the lead.

Another exciting day at the Norway Chess Women’s tournament ended with newcomer Sarasadat Khademalsharieh defeating Tingjie Lei handily. With a thrilling offensive display, she achieved her maiden victory at Norway Chess.

The fact that the last two matches—Anna Muzychuk vs. Vaishali Rameshbabu and World Champion Wenjun Ju vs. Humpy Koneru—were decided in Armageddon underscores how intensely competitive the women’s division is and how every point matters. Wenjun Ju and Vaishali Rameshbabu won their Armageddon matches, securing the vital additional points.
