Jayalakshmi widely renowned as Fatafat Jayalakshmi had a very long and successful career. The yesteryear actress worked with several superstars but died at a very young age leaving an indelible mark on the industry with her remarkable talent.
She rose to fame after making an incredible debut with legendary actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao in the Telugu film Iddaru Ammayilu. Following that she starred in A. Vincent’s Malayalam film Theerthayathra. Her incredible performances continued with Ithu Manushyano after which she adopted her screen name as Supriya.
In 1974 Jayalakshmi ventured into Tamil cinema with Aval Oru Thodar Kathai. She garnered immense recognition due to her popular dialogue ‘Fatafat and became synonymous with the name ‘Fatafat’ Jayalakshmi.
Over her decade-long career Jayalakshmi shared screen-space with some of the biggest names including Rajinikanth Kamal Haasan Krishna NTR and Chiranjeevi. She showcased her versatility and acting prowess in popular films like Anthuleni Katha Aarilirunthu Arubathu Varai and Mullum Malarum. In 2018 interview Rajnikanth called Jayalakshmi his favourite actress even though they share screen-space in only a few films. She starred in over 60 films and cemented her legacy as well as earned the title of Indias lady superstar.
Tragically at the peak of her career Fatafat Jayalakshmis life took a tragic turn. Married to the nephew of MG Ramachandran she took her own life at the age of 22 over an alleged fail romance. Her devastating untimely demise sent shockwaves through the film industry.
