Why should one avoid filing ITR before June 15?
Chartered Accountant Prakash Hegde says that TDS will be deducted on the income earned in the last quarter of the financial year 2024-25. This TDS is deducted by the payer. The payers for this TDS (can be employer, bank, property buyer, tenant etc., who make payment after deducting TDS.) file ETDS return by 31 May 2025. ETDS return contains details of the income paid and the tax deducted on it.

Disadvantages of filing returns before June 15
1. If you are a salaried person and file ITR before June 15, then you may not have received Form 16. It contains the employee's annual income, TDS (Tax Deducted at Source), and other tax-related information. Without this, there is a risk of filing incorrect information if the return is filed.
2. If you file the return before 15 days, then there may be a lack of information in Form 26AS and AIS. In such a situation, the chances of mistakes in the return increase. If you file the wrong return, you may have to file a revised return.
3. You may face technical problems if you file the return in a hurry. Because all the information is not updated.
4. Experts also say that if you file the return in a hurry, then the chances of making a mistake increase. If you select the wrong ITR form, it can be considered defective. Therefore, it would be better to first collect all the documents and then file the return.
5. If the taxpayer does not file income tax return with accurate information first, files return with incorrect or incomplete information, then the refund process may also get delayed. On the other hand, on filing the correct ITR, the refund is received within a few days.
Last date for filing ITR
For taxpayers who are not required to get their account audited, 31 July 2025 is the last date for filing ITR. If the taxpayer does not file income tax return by 31 July 2025, then he can file belated return till 31 December 2025. However, for this, they will have to pay a penalty. The amount of penalty can be Rs 1000 for taxpayers with income up to Rs 5 lakh and Rs 5000 for taxpayers with income above that.
