Elon Musk furiously clashed with a reporter in the Oval Office as he was questioned over a New York Times report.

Following the press conference, the reporter started by asking the question: "The president mentioned that you had to deal with all the slings and arrows during your time at Doge..."

To which Mr Musk interjected by laughing and saying: "Some of the media organisations were the slingers."

The reporter then continued his question: "There is a New York Times report today that accuses you of blurring the line..."

However, the Tesla boss quickly interrupted and said: "Oh wait, the New York Times? Is that the same publication that got a Pulitzer Prize for false reporting on the Russiagate? Is it the same organisation?"

The question refers to an article in the US publication which accuses the billionaire of "intense drug use" while on President Trump's campaign trail. The story says his "drug consumption went well beyond occasional use", and that he took "so much ketamine" that it affected his bladder.

Donald Trump held a joint press conference at the White House on Friday, May 30, to mark the last day of work with the Trump administration of the world's richest man. The joint appearance was announced overnight by the US President, in a message on Truth Social.

He wrote: "I am having a Press Conference tomorrow at 1:30 P.M. EST, with Elon Musk, at the Oval Office." Despite leaving the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Mr Musk will "always be with us", Mr Trump said. He explained: "This will be his last day, but not really, because he will, always, be with us, helping all the way. Elon is terrific! See you tomorrow at the White House."

Earlier this week, Mr Musk announced he was leaving DOGE after helping slash thousands of jobs.

Publishing a message on his social media platform X, he wrote: "As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending. The @DOGE mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government."

His departure comes after the Tesla founder criticised Mr Trump's budget bill, which proposes huge tax breaks and a boost to defence spending.

During his time in government, Mr Musk also saw sales at his electric car company plummet, with people around the world calling to boycott his business and vandals setting both Tesla vehicles and dealerships on fire.
