According to authorities, renowned Kannada dramatist and poet H. S. Venkatesha Murthy, often referred to as “HSV,” passed away on Friday in a private hospital in this city. Murthy was eighty years old. Age-related illnesses have been plaguing him. They reported that he had four boys.
As an essayist, dramatist, novelist, author of children’s literature, translator, critic, poet, and writer of cinema songs, stories, and dialogues, he was a prolific writer who made a substantial contribution to Kannada literature.
Murthy taught at St. Joseph’s Commerce College in Bengaluru for more than thirty years. The famous Sugama Sangeeta or Bhavageethe (musical genres in which Kannada poetry is put to music) stages often use Murthy’s poetry, which is well-known in Karnataka. In addition, he has written songs for movies including “America America,” “Chinnari Mutha,” and “Kirik Party.”
Manthare, Agnivarna, and Uriya Uyyale are some of his most well-known plays. at addition to becoming the president of the 85th All India Kannada Sahitya Sammelana, which took place at Kalaburagi, Murthy has received other honors and distinctions. Because of his studies on “Kannadadalli Kathana Kavanagalu,” he was awarded a Doctor of Literature.
The Karnataka government issued a notice of mourning for Murthy’s passing, directing that his last ceremonies be conducted with full police honors. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed his profound sadness, saying that Venkatesha Murthy, a well-known author with a large audience, has left the literary world “impoverished” by his passing. Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar expressed his sorrow over the poet’s passing and pointed out that his Bhavageethe enhanced Kannada literature.
