is a go-to summer destination for thousands of every year. , blue seas and attract looking for a picture-perfect escape. But while spots like may look stunning on Instagram, one UK region has been described as a "far nicer" and more relaxing alternative, and it won't cost a fortune to get there.

, in the south of England, has been compared favourably to the famous by local travel expert Emily Luxton, who spoke to . She said: " always looks perfect on Instagram, but for me, the reality on the ground is less inviting. You dream of cute cobbled streets, whitewashed houses, and sapphire seas. Instead, you get elbow-to-elbow crowds and overpriced everything."

Emily continued: "There are far nicer islands in Greece, in my opinion.

"In fact, you don't even have to leave the UK to find pretty seaside villages, dramatic coves, and quality seafood. Dorset has all of that and more, with no additional airport stress."

Emily added that a two-night stay on the Jurassic Coast near Durdle Door can cost under £200, which is far cheaper than a similar trip to Santorini, where rooms often start at £300 and flights from the UK can exceed £200 per person one way in peak summer months.

While Dorset does get busy in summer, it's nothing like the crowds that fill Santorini's narrow streets.

The county also has a wide range of hidden spots and quieter beaches where visitors can enjoy peaceful walks and scenic views.

According to , the region offers everything from sandy beaches and fossil-filled cliffs to museums, gardens and lively local towns.

Popular places like Weymouth, Swanage, Bournemouth and Lyme Regis are ideal for family holidays, while those looking to escape the crowds can explore more secluded beaches like Ringstead Bay or Chapman's Pool.

There are also plenty of activities, from paddleboarding and coastal walks to visiting Monkey World or the famous Tank Museum.

Nature lovers can spot wildlife, cast a line at a fishing lake, or take a boat trip along the Jurassic Coast.

And because you don't need to book flights or travel abroad, a holiday in Dorset is often more affordable overall, with lower transport costs and fewer surprises when it comes to spending money.
