has opened up about his evening routine, sharing a rare insight about what he really cooks for himself at home.

Appearing on today, guest Louise Redknapp questioned James about how his home cooking differed from what he created on the show.

Today, James was cooking up some delicious-looking blackened cod, marinated for three days in miso, sake, and mirin. The fish, which is roasted over coals, is served with BBQ leeks and grilled broccolini.

Louise, who was promoting her new solo album Confessions, asked James: "Do you cook dinner for yourself every night? Like, if you're just home alone do you still cook something..."

"Absolutely!" James confirmed enthusiastically. "Yeah, absolutely."

Louise went on to reveal that she had told James earlier about just having cereal for dinner the night before.

James then said: "So hopefully I'm going to cook for you some nice food."

Referring to the elaborate dish he was putting together, he then admitted: "I don't cook like this every night. But if you can just cook a nice bit of fish, just pan fry it...

"But yeah it's my job! You must sing in the kitchen don't you as you go along?" he quipped.

"I do, actually!" Louise said with a laugh, as James replied: "There you go! Similar sort of thing."

James has previously opened up about the more 'normal' meals he cooks on his Saturday Morning show.

During his programme last year, he revealed: "What do I cook on a regular day at home? Roast chicken. Easy.

"An hour and a quarter in the oven with some nice veg - green beans from the garden, tomatoes from the greenhouse," he continued, admitting he also wasn't opposed to just having it in a sandwich.

He continued: "As a chef, it's a funny one; if you're cooking for people at home, yes, you go and do your thing and get into the 'process'.

"But if it's just for everyday meals, most of us go for things like that - something simple but delicious; steak frites, or steak and a jacket potato, or a simple pasta, are my favourites."

James also shared one of his favourite ways to cook pasta, saying: ""Just a couple of tins of tomatoes, with garlic and basil, and cook for 30 minutes with some good olive oil. Cooking it for a good time makes the difference."

On today's show, James was joined by singer Louise as well as chefs Francesco Mazzei and Tom Shepherd, and forager Alysia Vasey.

Other dishes on the menu included flatbread with blue cheese and nettle pesto and a tasty looking asparagus tart with shallots, cheddar and a golden shortcrust.

Another recipe that had viewers' mouths watering was James' Lamb Chops, Purple Sprouting Broccoli and Harissa Dressing.

James Martin's Saturday Morning airs from 9.30am on ITV1 and ITVX.
