Two female staff members who got into a physical altercation at Phu Quoc International Airport’s passenger terminal have been disciplined for causing a public disturbance and harming the island’s tourism image.

The airport announced on Friday that a staff member from the Saigon–Phu Quoc Transportation Group had been suspended for 14 days and reassigned to a different position.

Meanwhile, a counter staff member from the Vietnam Airports Corporation–Phu Quoc Branch received a formal reprimand, was fined VND1 million (US$38) for damaging the company’s reputation, and also reassigned.

The incident occurred on Monday, when the air traffic staff reportedly raised her voice and pushed the counter employee. The two then engaged in a physical fight, pulling each other’s hair, and only stopped after several people intervened.

The altercation took place in the airport lobby in front of both employees and passengers, some of whom recorded the incident and shared it on social media, which later went viral.

Phu Quoc International Airport handled over 4.1 million passengers in 2023, including 2.3 million domestic and 1.8 million international travelers.
