On Saturday, Mallikarjun Kharge, the Congress president and leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha, announced that the party is urging for a comprehensive evaluation of India's defense readiness by an independent expert committee. This call comes in light of comments made by the Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) during an interview in Singapore. Kharge expressed on social media that there are critical questions that need to be addressed, which can only be raised if a special session of Parliament is convened immediately. He accused the Modi government of misleading the nation, stating that the fog of war is beginning to clear.
Kharge further noted that our Air Force pilots are risking their lives while engaging with the enemy. Although there have been some losses, our pilots remain safe. According to the CDS's interview, "We built it, fixed it, improved it, and then after two days, we implemented it again and flew all our jets, targeting at long distances." He commended their steadfast courage and bravery, but emphasized that a thorough strategic review is essential. The Congress party is calling for a detailed assessment of our defense capabilities, similar to the Kargil Review Committee.
Kharge also mentioned that former U.S. President Donald Trump has reiterated his claims of brokering a ceasefire, which he described as a direct insult to the Shimla Agreement. He criticized Modi for taking personal credit for the valor of our armed forces amidst an electoral storm, while evading the agreed-upon ceasefire framework announced by the Foreign Secretary following Trump's tweet on the 10th. He questioned whether India and Pakistan have reconciled and demanded clarity on the terms of the ceasefire agreement, asserting that 1.4 billion patriotic Indians deserve to know.
