Current Covid-19 Situation in India

On Saturday, India's active Covid-19 cases reached a total of 3,395, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The ministry also noted that over 1,430 individuals have recovered and been discharged from medical care.

In the past 24 hours, seven fatalities were recorded, increasing the overall death toll related to Covid-19 in 2025 to 22. Most of these cases involved patients with pre-existing health conditions, as reported by state-level data.

Among the recent deaths, two occurred in Maharashtra, while Delhi, Gujarat, Karnataka, Punjab, and Tamil Nadu each reported one. Notably, this marks the first Covid-related death in the national capital during the current surge in cases.

There has been a recent increase in Covid-19 infections, with a five-fold rise noted, surpassing the 1,000-case mark in the week ending May 25.

Kerala currently has the highest number of active cases at 1,336, followed by Maharashtra with 467, Delhi with 375, Gujarat with 265, Karnataka with 234, and Tamil Nadu with 185.

Union Minister of State for Health, Prataprao Jadhav, stated that the central government is closely monitoring the Covid-19 situation and is prepared to manage any developments.

He emphasized that both the central health department and the AYUSH ministry are on high alert and actively observing the situation across all states.

The minister also mentioned that the Union government has assessed the healthcare infrastructure established during previous Covid-19 waves, ensuring readiness to address any potential challenges.

As schools reopen following the summer break amidst the rise in Covid-19 cases, the Karnataka government has issued guidance advising parents to keep children at home if they exhibit symptoms such as fever, cough, or cold.
