In a career spanning over 60 years Veteran actor Prem Chopra starred in over 380 films. He created a lasting impression on masses with his ruthless villainous performances. When Prem Chopra started working in Hindi cinema he played positive roles but that didnt work. Soon after working in Main Shadi Karne Chala someone suggested him to take on villain roles and rest as they say is history.
Prem Chopras performances in films like Teesri Manzil Upkaar Do Raaste and others proved his versatility as a villain. Not many know but Prem Chopra had a deep connection with legendary Raj Kapoor. He is married to Raj Kapoors sister Krishna. When Raj Kapoor was planning to make Bobby (1973) with his son Rishi Kapoor and newcomer Dimple Kapadia he offered Prem a role in the film. Without any second thoughts he said yes to him.
The details of his character werent revealed for a very long time. However when he got to know about his role and his infamous dialogue Prem naam hai mera Prem Chopra that he was had to deliver Prem got a bit hesitant to do the part. The actor wasnt happy accepting a role with only one dialogue fearing that other filmmakers might also offer him small roles in future projects.
But lesser he knew that his supporting screen-presence and dialogue delivery in Bobby will leave an indelible impact on audiences. Released in 1973 the film Bobby became a blockbuster and made Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia overnight sensations.
Meanwhile Prem Chopras last on-screen appearance was in Animal where he was seen in cameo role as Dalbir Singh. Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga the film starred Ranbir Kapoor Bobby Deol Anil Kapoor Rashmika Mandanna Tripti Dimri in key roles.
