Love and commitment are rare—and often get overshadowed when money enters the scence. A recent case proved just that when a man, in a gesture of love, let his girlfriend claim a lottery prize he had won. But instead of celebrating together, she took the money and vanished—only to be found living with another man.
Ghosted and heartbroken, the ‘lucky’ winner ended up with neither the money nor the girl. His next move? Straight to court to reclaim his reward.
Lawsuit filed
A man in Winnipeg, Canada, has filed a CA$5 million (approx. ₹30 crore) lawsuit against his ex-girlfriend for vanishing with his lottery winnings and cutting all ties with him immediately after cashing in the prize.
Posed together for official pics
According to court documents, Lawrence Campbell claims that he entrusted his then-girlfriend, Krystal Ann McKay, to redeem a winning ticket on his behalf. The two even posed together for official photos with an oversized cheque at a Shoppers Drug Mart, where they called it the birthday gift she had received from him.
Everything seemed picture-perfect — until it wasn’t.
Despite the smiling photo op, Campbell reportedly appeared “noticeably uncomfortable” in the publicity shots.
He found her with another man
According to him, soon after the win, the woman disappeared without a word, cutting all contact with him.
In a shocking turn, Campbell later claimed he tracked her down — only to find her “in bed with another guy.”
Feeling betrayed and financially duped, he has taken legal action not just against McKay, but also against Western Canada Lottery Corporation and Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries, seeking to recover what he alleges is rightfully his.
The lawsuit is filed with Manitoba’s Court of King’s Bench.
