Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Instagram has now formally adopted support for photos in the 3:4 aspect ratio, which includes images taken by smartphone cameras, as they no longer need to be cropped. This update boosts the user experience for both casual users and content creators on the platform.

This improvement brings Instagram in line with the default camera options on most smartphones, which take pictures with a 3:4 aspect ratio.

Instagram Ceo Adam Mosseri Update

Adam Mosseri, CEO of Instagram, has shared this new update on Threads, claiming that any pictures taken in the 3:4 perspective will not be resized or stretched, and will show up on the app exactly how they were taken. This applies to:

Single image posts
Carousels (multi photo posts)

“For those posting photos in 3:4, they will now be displayed just as you shot them,” he said. Mosseri emphasized the point.

Instagram Changes

Prior to the latest update, Instagram posed limiting constraints on photo uploads including:

Only permitting square images (1:1) and portrait styles of either (4:5) or (5:4).

Users had to crop their original 3:4 photos, which often ridded them of essential details and diminished the resolution. The new update instead:

Allows cropping to be optional

Maintains the quality of the photo as well as its original dimensions

Provides more flexibility for creators as well as photographers.

Instagram’s New ‘Blend’ Feature

Along with changes to the aspect ratio, Instagram also added a new feature: Blend, an invite-only Reels feed that is integrated into Instagram messages.

Main features of the Blend include:

Sharing recommended Reels that are tailored towards the user’s shared interests.

Curation of content with regard to personal Instagram activities.

Available for users on iOS and Android.

This is a new feature currently in testing for a smaller subset of users which aims to enhance social interaction as well as content discovery through direct messaging.
