Mumbai Indians (MI) finished their innings on 203/6 after being invited to bat first by Shreyas Iyer in Qualifier 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, June 1.

The important fixture started after a 135-minute delay due to rain. Like in the Eliminator, Rohit Sharma was given an early reprieve, but this time he couldn't make it count. The former MI skipper was dismissed in the third over by Marcus Stoinis.

Tilak Varma and Jonny Bairstow took the attack to the PBKS bowlers and helped MI amass 65/1 in the powerplay. Vijaykumar Vyshak was introduced into the attack in the seventh over, and he picked up the wicket of Jonny Bairstow, who looked in sublime touch, scoring a brisk 24-ball 38.

Tilak, however, went from strength to strength, with the in-form Suryakumar Yadav for company. They added a 72-run partnership off 42 balls to give Mumbai a great platform from where a 220-plus total was looking well within reach. However, the two set batters were dismissed in the space of three balls as PBKS roared back into the game

Suryakumar and Tilak were dismissed for an identical score of 44 in 26 and 29 balls, respectively. Hardik Pandya failed to get going and departed for a 13-ball 15. Naman Dhir, however, played another brilliant cameo at the backend of the innings to ensure that MI make the most of the death overs. PBKS didn't help their cause by bowling their overs slowly, and that forced them to bowl their last two overs with one fielder fewer outside the 30-yard circle. MI eventually managed to get past the 200-run mark.

Kyle Jamieson was the pick of the bowlers for PBKS as he picked up the important wicket of Tilak and conceded just 30 runs in his four overs. Azmatullah Omarzai proved to be expensive, going for 43 runs in his four overs, but he bagged two wickets.
