Ahmedabad: In the second qualifier of IPL 2025, Punjab Kings defeated Mumbai Indians and made it to the finals. With this victory, Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer has become the first captain in the world to bring three different teams to the IPL final. He defeated Mumbai and got his name registered in the pages of history.

Iyer played a brilliant innings for Punjab Kings in the second qualifier of IPL 2025 against Mumbai Indians at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. He remained unbeaten by scoring 87 off 41 balls and he hit five fours and eight sixes while staying at the crease. Thanks to this memorable innings of Iyer, Punjab Kings lost 5 wickets in 19 overs and won the match and made it to the finals.

Iyer has captained three teams to the finals, captaining the IPL. He started his captaincy in the IPL for Delhi Capitals from 2018 and in 2020 he took Delhi Capitals to the finals. Where the Delhi team was runner -up. He then captained Kolkata Knight Riders in 2022 and 2024 and made Kolkata the champion in the previous season and won the first trophy as captain.

After taking PBKS to the finals of IPL 2025, Iyer has become the fourth captain in the world to play the IPL final after MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya and also became the first captain to play consecutive finals with two different teams.

Iyer came out to bat at number four in qualifier 2 of IPL 2025 and added 84 runs for the fourth wicket with Nehal. Shared a 38 -run partnership for the sixth wicket with Vadhera (48 runs) and Marcus Stoinis (2 runs). Thanks to Iyer’s brilliant batting, Punjab Kings have become the first team to achieve a target of more than 200 runs against Mumbai Indians in IPL history. Iyer’s team will now face RCB in the final of IPL 2025 on Tuesday (June 3). The final of this year’s IPL is also to be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. PBKS has won one match against RCB in IPL 2025 and lost two matches.
