New Delhi: Norway Chess 2025 The 19-year-old Grandmaster and current world champion Domraju Gukesh in the 6th round of the tournament shocked everyone by defeating former world number-1 player Magnus Carlson in a classical match. This was Gukesh’s first win in classical format against Carlson. After the defeat to Gukesh, Magnus Carlson punched the table in anger.
Carlson had an edge in most of the match, but in the end he could not face pressure and Gukesh made a tremendous comeback and won the game. With this victory, Gukesh has now moved up to third place in the points table. He has 8.5 points and he is now only one point behind only Fabiano Caruana and Carlson and Karlson. Gukesh has become the second Indian player to defeat Carlson. Earlier, Pragyanananda did this feat. Earlier on 27 May, there was a strong contest between the two in the first round, in which Carlson defeated Gukesh while showing a brilliant game. This match was also special because it was Karlson’s return to the classical chess after about a year and the two had their first competition after Gukesh became world champion.
