Kolkata – A fire broke out on the first floor of Ojas Banquet in Topsia, Kolkata, on Sunday around noon, prompting swift emergency response. According to local media reports, the blaze erupted in the storage room on the first floor of the banquet hall located on Haute Street.
Preliminary investigations suggest the fire was caused by a short circuit in the outdoor air conditioning unit. The storage area, which contained carpets and decorative materials, quickly caught fire, leading to heavy smoke and panic in the vicinity.
Three fire engines were immediately dispatched to the scene. The fire brigade managed to evacuate the entire building safely as a precautionary measure. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties have been reported.
Firefighters worked efficiently to douse the flames and brought the situation under control within a short time, preventing further spread or damage to the adjoining sections of the property.
The incident marks the second fire in the Topsia area within 12 hoursraising concerns about fire safety compliance in local commercial establishments.
Authorities are expected to carry out a detailed inspection and follow-up to ensure preventive measures are in place.
