The 36-year-old Maxwell left ODI cricket as one of Australia’s most spectacular white-ball players. He scored 3,990 runs in 149 ODIs, which is the fastest strike rate (126.70) among the players scoring more than 2,000 runs. He also took 77 wickets from his off-spin bowling.

Maxwell played a big role in Australia’s World Cup win in 2015 and 2023. Especially in the 2023 World Cup, his unbeaten 201 run innings against Afghanistan is considered one of the biggest innings of ODI cricket. Deciding his retirement, Maxwell said that this format puts more pressure on the body and now he wants to give a chance to the next generation. He said that for the last few years, injuries have been constant and his body was not able to perform properly, which could have caused damage to the team.
