Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan held a high-level meeting with West Bengal officials to discuss the issue of fencing along the India-Bangladesh border, especially in the backdrop of the changing situation in Bangladesh.
Chief Secretary Manoj Pant, state Home Secretary Nandini Chakravorty, West Bengal DGP Rajeev Kumar and Commissioner of Police Manoj Verma attended the meeting in Kolkata on Sunday, as part of the visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. During the meeting, special emphasis was given on expediting the land acquisition process for the fencing project, sources said.
Meanwhile, Shah had, at a political programme on Sunday, blamed Mamata Banerjee for not giving land to BSF for fencing work and alleged that she was aiding infiltration. "Give us land and let the fencing be completed. We will not allow a bird to enter Bengal," Shah said on Sunday.
