The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert as it predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in many states on Monday.

According to IMD, the Northeast, which is already reeling under heavy downpour and rain-induced landslides, is expected to experience more showers today and for next few days. Northeastern states like Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are also expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places from afternoon to night on Monday. An orange alert has been sounded in these states.

While in the southern region, Kerala and the Mahe region are witnessing heavy to very heavy rainfall. The rainy season has intensified due to the arrival of monsoon, bringing relief from the summer heat.

Delhi, Haryana To Witness Strong Winds

Several northern states, including Haryana, Delhi, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, and western Uttar Pradesh, are expected to witness thundersqualls and strong winds gusting up to 60 kmph.

While in other states like Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand, IMD predicted thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (up to 50 kmph). The Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh region is expected to witness similar weather.

The weather department has sounded an alert for heavy rainfall in some areas of East Rajasthan, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim.

Further, Gujarat, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu (including Puducherry and Karaikal) and parts of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka are expected to experience thunderstorms with lightning and mild gusty winds up to 30–40 kmph. West Rajasthan may also witness dust storms, which are a common phenomenon in the region before the monsoon fully sets in.
