Royal Challengers Bengaluru has been impressive in the ongoing IPL 2025 season, as they advanced to the finals after a dominating 8-wicket victory over Punjab Kings in the Qualifier 1 at Mullanpur.

With Punjab Kings storming back into the finals after a five-wicket win against Mumbai Indians, they will be meeting once again in the summit clash.

Even though RCB has the edge over Punjab Kings, seeing the stats of the qualifier 01 winner claiming the IPL title, there are three occasions where the qualifier 01 winning team did not win the title.

Three Times Teams Have Lost IPL Finals After Winning Qualifier 01

In IPL 2013, Chennai Super Kings won the qualifier 01 games against Mumbai Indians and stormed into the finals. However, Rohit Sharma’s side bounced back to secure a 23-run victory in the finals claiming their first title.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru has faced the circumstance in the past as well. In the 2016 season, they went on beat Gujarat Lions in the Qualifier 01 and advanced to the finals. However, they lost the finals to the eliminator winners Sunrisers Hyderabad just by eight runs.

In the 2017, the qualifier 01 winners did not win the title. Rising Pune Supergiants defeat Mumbai Indians by 20 runs in the Qualifier 01 and stormed into the finals. However, Rohit Sharma-led side bounced back stronger in the finals.

Can Bengaluru claim their victory against Punjab Kings?

With Royal Challengers Bengaluru has won the qualifier 01 against Punjab Kings and stormed into finals, it remains to see if the Bengaluru franchise can clinch their maiden IPL title orelse Rajat patidar-led RCB will be the fourth team in the IPL history to win the qualifier 1 and not the IPL.
