Arsenal sent clear Julian Alvarez transfer message as striker announcement made

Atletico Madrid have staunchly stated that Julian Alvarez is not going anywhere — despite speculation linking him to several teams in the English top flight, including Arsenal.

The Spanish club's president Enrique Cerezo put rumours to bed as he firmly stated that Julian Alvarez will stay put this summer. The announcement came amid reports there was significant interest from Premier League clubs for the ex-Manchester City forward.

Alvarez, 25, had a stellar first season with the Spanish capital club where he netted 29 times in all competitions. The £80m move saw the prolific striker come across from the Premier League to La Liga and after just one campaign on the contingent — he is again being eyed up by some of the best clubs in England.

have been linked to the player making a return to the Premier League where he is remembered for an impressive period at the Etihad Stadium. During his time at The Citizens, Alvarez vied for minutes with Erling Haaland and helped secure several pieces of silverware as part of the side.

The Argentine is seen as part of the future at the Spanish club who made a significant investment to get him to the Riyadh Air Metropolitano stadium. President Cerezo has declared that Atletico do not plan to part ways with their attacking asset just a year after paying such a large sum to secure his services in Madrid, reported .

"Julian Alvarez is an Atletico Madrid player and will be an Atletico Madrid player," Cerezo announced to on Monday evening. It is uncertain if Arsenal or Liverpool will challenge Atletico's resolve with a formal bid for the footballer yet to happen.

But, it's understood that both clubs have alternative striker targets in mind for potential transfers. In May, the same outlet reported the interest from the above mentioned English clubs, labelling Arsenal as the 'strongest bidders'.

The north London club have started to look at a number of different options as they are eager to land a new No.9. Names such as Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko have also been mentioned. Both players have been on the Gunners' radar for some time and are likely to leave their current clubs this summer.
