Following a copyright dispute between Asian News International (ANI) and several YouTube creators, this initiative was launched.
The goal of the decision to make access easier is to encourage the lawful use of media content and lessen copyright disputes.
For websites like YouTube, the Press Trust of India (PTI) had already started providing reasonably priced access to its collection of videos.
On X (formerly Twitter), Doordarshan National declared that creators can use @PBShabd to access:
According to Akashvani, producers can get free shorts, explainers, and documentaries in 15 languages and 50 categories.
Prasar Bharati emphasized that “rare visuals, historic clips, and reliable data” are available, and that all content is free and approved for use by the general public and creators.
This message was endorsed and spread by the PIB, which increased the initiative’s legitimacy.

YouTubers, podcasters, and video editors are encouraged to sign up and utilize the free services offered by Prasar Bharati’s platform, PB SHABD (Prasar Bharati-Shared Audio-Visuals for Broadcast and Dissemination).
As “a go-to source for copyright-free, authentic, and safe-to-use content,” the PB SHABD platform was advertised.
Reiterating that the content on PBShabd is “fully copyright-free and authorised for use” and accessible “24/7” in a variety of formats, Doordarshan National encouraged content creators to make use of it.
The ultimate objective is to provide unfettered, lawful, and reliable content to media professionals and independent creators.
