New Delhi: A new feature being tested on WhatsApp’s Android beta will let users design their own AI chatbots. Meta’s AI Studio powers this feature, and only selected beta testers can currently use it. It offers the same function as Instagram and Messenger, where users can set the roles, traits and looks of their chatbots.
The update has been included in the Android version 2.25.18.4 beta and it may be available to more users in the near future. Meta’s move to add the feature suggests it is trying to enhance AI interactions in its programmes for a better experience for users.
As reported by WABetaInfo, the chatbot creation tools are part of a new AI Studio tab that has been added to WhatsApp. The tab has both ready-made AI bots and tools for creating your own. The first part is for users to write a detailed prompt of up to 1,000 characters to define the chatbot’s purpose and role.
Users are able to select the characteristics they wish their chatbot to have after draughting the prompt. The app can suggest traits for users based on their description, or people can also write about their own interests. Users decide what role the chatbot will have, such as being a teacher, a mentor or a helper.
The next step is to select the avatar for the chatbot. WhatsApp helps users by suggesting an avatar, but everyone has the option to customise it or create another by using the text prompts. When the chatbot is set up, users can chat with it on their own.
At this time, there is uncertainty about whether users can share their custom chatbots. Because Instagram and Messenger users can already do this, WhatsApp may add this option in the future. The release date for all users has not been set yet.
