Virat Kohli shares a good rapport with the South African batting legend AB de Villiers, since their days in Royal Challengers Bengaluru. After RCB reached the finals, AB flew to Ahmedabad to support RCB to support his team. While AB was widely tagged as the bad omen for RCB, it was him in front of whom Rajat Patidar and his men broke the 18-years-long jinx and won their maiden trophy of the league. After winning the trophy, Kohli was seen hugging AB and then took him to the stage and celebrated with the team.

Speaking to the broadcasters after the match, Kohli recalled his golden days with AB, how both tried, but nothing seemed enough to kiss the trophy. Kohli acknowledged how AB still has the highest number of Player-of-the-Match awards. Kohli said,

“I have spent my prime years with them. I know how much we tried to win this. We were so close a couple of times, and we were such a good team; we had the explosiveness, but we could never cross the line. We gave our prime years to this franchise.”

He added,

“What he (AB de Villiers) has done for this franchise is absolutely tremendous and I told him that before the game as well that this one is as much yours as it is ours. I want you to celebrate with us when we lift that trophy by the end of the night because what he has done for RCB is so very special. He’s still got maximum number of Man of the Match awards and he is retired for 4 years now. What he means to the people of Bangalore to this team and to this franchise is something that I can't describe in words, so as I said he deserves to be on that podium with all of us lifting that cup tonight.”

Not only that, coming back, he posted a photo with his old mate holding the trophy with a captaion:

"Equally yours, biscotti."

Notably, biscotti is a lovely nickname they call each other.  Meanwhile, AB de Villiers holds the record for the highest number of Player of the Match awards in IPL history with 25, followed closely by Chris Gayle, who has won 22.
