Taylor Townsend has revealed that she struggles to get a clothing sponsor despite winning two Grand Slams during her career. Having reached world No. 2 in doubles, the American has decided to take matters into her own hands by releasing her own clothing range.

Townsend of the doubles and the semi-finals of the mixed doubles today. Fans have noticed that she has a unique and unfamiliar logo on her clothing that is different from the standard sponsors of the top-ranked stars, such as Nike and Adidas. After teaming up with a creative director to launch a limited edition of her court attire, the 29-year-old has embraced the problem and hopes to launch the clothing line soon.

"I'm kind of just taking things into my own hands, like, you know, I've had so much success, I've done so many things. I'm No. 2 in the World in doubles and I still don't have a clothing sponsor. So I was like why not take it into my own hands and do my own thing, so now that's what I'm doing," Townsend said.

"So, I started working with [creative director Alexander John] and my team is really great and we're kind of crafting my own stuff, and it's going to be really cool and that stuff is going to be one off-one. I'm really excited for you guys to see what's coming. This is just the start."

Townsend has enjoyed most of her success in doubles. Although she climbed as high as No. 46 in the singles last year, she is the reigning Australian Open champion and lifted the Wimbledon title in 2024. But she previously hit out at claims she was a 'doubles specialist', instead preferring to simply be called a tennis player.

Asked in 2023 how she prioritises during tournaments when she is entering both the singles and doubles draw, she snapped back: "I didn't have to prioritise. Every tournament I've played, I play singles in, so I'm a tennis player, end of. I think that sometimes when you're having success in one area more than the other, it's very easy for people to try and box you in, say, Oh, she's doing great in doubles, and that overshadows anything.

"But I'm out here working. I'm a tennis player, period. It's just that right now my doubles ranking is higher than my singles, but not for long.

"For me personally, it could be different for other players, but for me personally, it doesn't matter. Me being in those situations over and over is giving me the confidence and it's prepping me for the singles, in my opinion."
