MoU signed with Norway to make the country’s first Polar Research Ship

Kolkata. The Ministry of Port, Shipping and Waterways (Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways) has compromised with Norway’s Kongsberg (Kongsberg, NORWAY) to create the country’s first Polar Research Ship. Gardens were signed on MoUs in Kolkata on Tuesday between Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited and Norway’s Kongsburg. Under the agreement, it will be easy for India to make its first polar research vessel easier.

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said on the occasion on Tuesday that this agreement, showing India’s unwavering commitment to scientific progress and sustainable development, will give rise to new hope. He said that with this agreement the country is not only building a vessel but a legacy is being constructed and the legacy of innovation, investigation and international cooperation will inspire the coming generations.

He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this agreement is a commitment to promote scientific discovery, increase India’s capabilities in polar and ocean research and to contribute to global efforts to address serious challenges such as climate change. He said that this vessel would be equipped with the latest scientific equipment, which would prove to be important in developing the depth of the oceans to our researchers, maritime ecosystems and our planet’s past, present and future to develop new thinking in the future.

The Union Minister said that the agreement between Garden Reach Ship Builder and Kongsburg reflects a significant achievement for the country’s shipbuilding sector, as it will get a design expertise to develop PRVs, as well as the need for the National Polar and Ocean Research Center, which will be used for research activities in polar and southern ocean areas.
