A tragic stampede occurred outside Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, resulting in 11 fatalities and 33 injuries following the Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) victory in IPL 2025. In response to the incident, an FIR has been filed at the Cubbon Park police station. The complaint, initiated by a concerned citizen, names RCB, the event management company DNA, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) Administrative Committee, and several other parties. The FIR includes various sections of the law, including 105, 125 (1)(2), 132, 121/1, and 190 R/w 3 (5).
The High Court has taken notice of the situation and has requested a detailed report from the state government. The court seeks information regarding the causes of the incident, safety protocols in place, and the actions that have been implemented since the tragedy. A comprehensive report is expected to be submitted by the state government by June 10.
In light of the unfortunate events, Royal Challengers Bangalore has announced a financial aid of Rs 10 lakh for the families of the deceased. Additionally, RCB has established a fund named 'RCB Cares' to assist injured fans. In an official statement, RCB expressed, "The unfortunate incident that happened in Bengaluru yesterday has caused great pain to the RCB family. As a symbol of respect and solidarity, RCB has announced financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh to the 11 families of the deceased."
Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar expressed his sorrow during a media briefing, visibly emotional over the incident. He conveyed his condolences for the loss of life and injuries, stating, "This should not have happened; we did not expect such a huge crowd... The stadium had a capacity of 35,000, but more than 3 lakh people were present... We apologise for the incident."
