will finally receive a knighthood in the King's Birthday Honours list next week, according to . His wife Victoria will be officially known as Lady Beckham as the football ace finally becomes a Sir after calls for him to be given the honour have been ignored.

Beckham, who turned 50 at the beginning of May, has been a beloved British icon for years and had long been tipped to become another England star to become a Sir. The sportsman, who played 115 times for England, has continued to make sizeable donations to charity. He has also struck up a firm friendship with and Queen Camilla.

The monarch dropped a hint last month that Beckham may receive the honour when he bumped into the sports star at the Chelsea Flower Show. Charles asked him: "You got it, didn't you?" to which Beckham replied: "It was incredible, thank you. It was very kind."

The now Miami co-owner made his name in Manchester where he quickly rose through the ranks before he became the England captain. His goal that saw the Three Lions quality for the World Cup in 2002 still remains one of his greatest achievements so far.

His profile exceeded football and the dad-of-four went on to play for the likes of Real Madrid, AC Milan and LA Galaxy before he called time on his sporting career. Despite hanging up his football boots, Beckham still remains adored by the British public today.

David is said to have claimed that he "didn't care about being knighted" - although the ex-midfielder has claimed some of the leaked emails had been doctored.

The leaked emails claim he said: "I expected nothing less. It's a disgrace to be honest and if I was American, I would have ot something like this 10 yeards ago."

A close pal of David's exclusively told : "To be honest, he does feel that he has given so much to his country. And sometimes you say things in private that anyone would say and you don't really mean it.

"While he was frustrated in those emails, he was over it the moment he sent them. Getting a knighthood is not what his work is about. He doesn't care if he gets a knighthood or not."
