The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a steady rise in temperatures across Northwest and Central India over the coming days. In contrast, parts of Northeast and Peninsular India are expected to continue receiving rainfall, though intensity is likely to decrease.

The conditions are expected to turn hot and dry in several parts, as per the IMD bulletin. The maximum temperatures are forecast to climb by 4-6 degrees Celsius over most parts of Northwest India, including Delhi, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Haryana.

Central India is also likely to experience a temperature rise of 2-4 degrees Celsius until June 9, after which the conditions are expected to stabilise. Heatwave conditions are likely to prevail over West Rajasthan from June 8 - 11, with the mercury gradually increasing from June 6, said IMD.

Rainfall to continue in South and Northeast India

Despite a slight decrease in intensity, the IMD forecasts that the northeast will continue to receive rainfall over the next seven days.

States such as Assam and Meghalaya are likely to experience isolated heavy showers between June 9 and 11. Light to moderate rainfall will persist in parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura and Mizoram.
The southern peninsula, including Kerala and coastal Karnataka, is also expected to witness scattered rainfall throughout the week. meanwhile isolated thunderstorm activity is likely over Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and parts of East India till June 9.
The IMD also issued advisories for fishermen, warning against venturing into rough sea areas in the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal.
Delhi NCR to warm gradually.
The Delhi-NCR region, which experienced a relatively cooler start to June, is expected to warm up gradually. On June 6, maximum temperatures are expected to reach 38-40 degrees Celsius, with partly cloudy skies and calm morning winds, increasing slightly in the afternoon.
By June 8, temperatures could touch 41 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperatures will be below normal up to 1-3 degrees Celsius and the maximum temperature will be below normal up to 1-2 degrees Celsius, the IMD noted.
Strong surface winds of 25-35mph are forecast for June 7-8, which could cause minor damage to trees and infrastructure, prompting residents to stay alert.
