Famed Turkish actor Engin Altan Düzyatan, who played the iconic role of Ertuğrul in the hit historical series Diriliş: Ertuğrul, recently shared some memorable and humorous moments from his visit to Pakistan, describing the trip as a truly wonderful experience.
During a recent interview, Engin said that his 2020 visit to Karachi was met with overwhelming love from fans. He expressed how deeply people in Pakistan connected with the Ertuğrul series and appreciated the admiration he received during his stay.
Reflecting on the timing of his visit, he noted that the world was grappling with the COVID-19 pandemic, but in Pakistan, many people didn’t seem to take it seriously. “Most people weren’t wearing masks. I told them COVID is real and has caused deaths globally, but they responded by saying it was all fake. For a moment, they almost convinced me,” he said with amusement.
He also recalled a surprising moment when he was in his hotel room and nearly 20 people suddenly entered to take photos with him. “I was a little shocked and told them it was my room. But they said, ‘Yes, we know! We love you and want a picture.’ They walked in without any regard for social distancing. It was astonishing,” he said.
Another memorable incident took place at a well-known mosque in Karachi. While speaking with the Imam, crowds began to gather once people recognized him. Within minutes, around 4,000 people had surrounded the mosque. As there was no security present, the Imam took him inside to ensure his safety. Eventually, local guards came to escort him from the location.
Engin praised the warmth and enthusiasm of Pakistani fans and said their passion was unlike anything he had seen before. He described his visit as an unforgettable experience and said the moments he shared in Pakistan will stay with him forever.
The Turkish series Diriliş: Ertuğrul became a massive hit in Pakistan when it was dubbed in Urdu and aired on national television, capturing the hearts of millions and achieving record-breaking viewership.
