Congress MP's Remarks on Governance

On Friday, Congress MP Jairam Ramesh took a jab at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asserting that Modi has never acknowledged continuity in governance, as he is always in pursuit of self-promotion and self-praise. Ramesh highlighted the BrahMos missile and the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla railway project as examples of governance continuity. He stated in an interview that the Prime Minister consistently overlooks the importance of continuity in governance, focusing instead on his own accolades.

Ramesh pointed out that the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla railway project was approved in March 1995 during P.V. Narasimha Rao's tenure as Prime Minister, and all contracts for the Chenab Bridge were awarded in 2005. He remarked, 'The Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla railway project received its approval in March 1995 under P.V. Narasimha Rao. In March 2002, Atal Bihari Vajpayee declared it a national project during his premiership... All contracts for the Chenab Bridge were awarded in 2005.'

He further noted that the inauguration of the railway line from Baramulla to Srinagar, and from Srinagar to Anantnag, as well as from Anantnag to Qazigund and Qazigund to Banihal, occurred before 2014, with 160 kilometers of the 272-kilometer track inaugurated prior to that year. The Chenab Bridge is a prestigious structure, and we want to congratulate Indian Railways. This achievement holds significant importance for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, and it is a major milestone for Indian Railways. However, the Congress party wishes to remind the Prime Minister that he should acknowledge the continuity in governance and the contributions made by previous administrations, as he tends to take undue credit for their work.

Highlighting the contributions of various Prime Ministers, he stated that today marks an important day for the people of Jammu and Kashmir and Indian Railways, but recognition of governance continuity is essential. This is a collective achievement over the past 30 years, with successive Prime Ministers working to bring these projects to fruition. Meanwhile, excitement was palpable among schoolchildren in Katra as they awaited Prime Minister Modi's arrival. The 272-kilometer project, costing ₹43,780 crores, includes 36 tunnels spanning 119 kilometers and 943 bridges. In line with his commitment to enhancing rail infrastructure and connectivity in the region, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Chenab Bridge and tour its deck. Following this, he will visit and inaugurate the Anji Bridge and flag off Vande Bharat trains. Subsequently, he will lay the foundation stone and inaugurate several development projects in Katra, amounting to over ₹46,000 crores, dedicating them to the nation.
