He later transitioned into adult roles making his adult debut in Ek Thi Reeta (1971). In his career Mehra acted in over 100 films from the 1970s through to his death in 1990. Vinod featured in various movies. His major breakthrough came in 1972 with the film Anuraag. While Mehras professional life always made headlines his personal life remained under public scrutiny. The actor was linked with many actresses among whom one very prominent name was Rekha. As much as he enjoyed success on screen he was far from peace in real life. Vinod Mehras name kept getting linked with Rekha. There were also rumours that he and Rekha were married. But both of them never spoke openly on this issue.
