Health Desk. Today’s high speed life, irregular routine and mental stress, high blood pressure (high BP) is becoming a common problem. It acts like a “silent killer”, because many times its symptoms do not appear and the person finds out when the situation is serious. In such a situation, it is very important to know how much normal BP should be and what can be the symptoms of high BP.

What should be the normal BP?

Blood pressure is measured in two parts – the first systolic (upper number): When the heart pumps, the second diaastolic (low number): when the heart relaxes.

Common blood pressure for adults: 120/80 mmhg is considered a normal BP.

Common categories of BP:

Normal: 120/80 mmhg

Preherapytation: 120–129 / 80 mmhg

High BP (Stage 1): 130–139 / 80–89 mmhg

High BP (Stage 2): 140 and above / 90 and above

Hypertensive Crisis: 180/120 mmhg or more – required emergency medical aid

Major symptoms of high BP

High blood pressure often develops without symptoms, but some common signs that may appear are: persistent headaches, dizziness or confusion, nasal bleeding, chest pressure or pain, blurred vision or difficulty in seeing, tiredness or breathlessness. If any of these symptoms are felt again and again, contact the doctor immediately and get BP checked.

High BP threats

If high BP is not controlled on time, it can cause many serious diseases, such as: heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, effects on eye lights and problems like brain hemorrhage.
