Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has taken a tough stand on the misleading information spreading about slums. He has directed strict legal action against those who spread fake news. Acting on the official complaint of the Delhi Urban Shelter Reform Board (DUSIB), the Delhi Police has registered an FIR against the anti -social elements who spread rumors.
It was informed in the complaint that the list of 675 slums uploaded from information and administrative objectives on Dusib’s website is being propagated as “settlements for demolition” on social media. Due to this, there is an atmosphere of fear, confusion and instability among the citizens living in poor and sensitive areas.
Dusib has made it clear that no action has been taken to break any slum till now. Only the same settlements have been marked under the rehabilitation policy on which clear instructions have been given by the court. There is no basis for this false information and it is being spread with malicious purpose, which can also affect law and order.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has instructed the officials to maintain transparent and open dialogue with the slums. He appealed to the general public not to pay attention to rumors and confirm the information only from official channels. The Chief Minister assured that “no slum will be removed without giving a perfect house.” He further said that our government believes in inclusive rule. Spreading fear in poor families is not only irresponsible, but also a criminal act. No attempt to create unrest with such rumors will not be tolerated.
