In the ultra-competitive world of the Bundesliga, it is often easy to forget that football can also provide laughter. However, the German top flight has once again shown in 2024/25 that there is a lighter side to the sport, while the supporters continue to prove why they are the envy of Europe…

Throughout the 2024/25 campaign, there were numerous moments that would bring a smile to even the face of even the most cold-hearted pessimist. Next term, the Bundesliga will not only be without Thomas Müller’s supreme talent, but also his comedic timing, which was evident during his final season with Bayern Munich.

Animals have also helped relieve the tension, whether it be pigeons on the pitch at the Allianz Arena, mice scuttling across the turf at Mainz’s Mewa Arena, or Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitiké getting to grips with club mascot Attila the eagle.

And what about the supporters? As ever, they have given us some fantastic stories across the season. What about Bayer Leverkusen fan Frank Müller, who cycled to every one of the Werkself’s away games? Or young Werder Bremen fan Marcel, who was able to meet his hero Diego?

German football and its special culture – serious or otherwise – has attracted fans from across the continent, who now follow their chosen club as passionately as anyone. Bochum supporter Reese, originally from Cheltenham in England, is the perfect example.
