India is renowned as a subcontinent rich in cultural and religious diversity, making it one of the most varied and vibrant countries in the world.

With numerous states, each boasting its own unique traditions in food, clothing, festivals, and rituals, India offers an incredible mosaic of lifestyles.

When it comes to food, the sheer variety is overwhelming. It's nearly impossible to list every cuisine and dish found across the country because each state—and often different regions within the same state—has its own culinary specialties.

So, if you're in India, sticking to a strict diet can be quite a challenge!

Like in many countries, street food is an integral part of India's food culture. While different regions have their own iconic street foods, some have earned love nationwide and can be found almost everywhere.

That said, we all know that eating out regularly or indulging in junk food isn’t the healthiest habit.

But honestly, has that ever really stopped us from savoring our favorite snacks once in a while? Probably not!

Occasional indulgence may be fine, but frequent consumption of outside food, especially street food, can pose serious health risks. Many street foods are made in unhygienic conditions and often include ingredients that are far from healthy.

Some street foods are particularly harmful—here are a few you might want to think twice about before digging in:

# Pani Puri

A beloved snack across India, pani puri may pose health risks due to the water used, which is often contaminated. The puris themselves are deep-fried, making them high in unhealthy fats that can lead to weight gain and infections.

# Papdi Chaat

Though it might appear healthier with ingredients like curd and potatoes, papdi chaat is served uncooked and may carry bacteria, increasing the risk of infections.

# Kachori & Samosa

These deep-fried favorites are high in unhealthy fats and can lead to weight gain and even throat infections if consumed frequently.

# Momos

Often made with ajinomoto (MSG), a substance linked to serious health issues like cancer, momos also typically contain maida (refined flour), which isn't great for your digestive health.

# Chole Bature

Despite being a cooked dish that includes protein-rich chickpeas, chole bature is calorie-dense and can contribute to rapid weight gain.

# Ice Golas (Chuski)

These colorful ice treats may look tempting, but they often contain harmful chemical dyes and can trigger throat infections.
