Producer Sajid Nadiadwala and director Tarun Mansukhani’s Housefull 5 starring Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan and Riteish Deshmukh opened to mixed response from the audiences and that resulted in a better than expected opening day of Rs 24.35 crore.

This makes Housefull 5, Akshay Kumar’s fourth biggest opener, Abhishek Bachchan’s third biggest opener and Riteish Deshmukh’s biggest opener. It is now also the biggest opener in the Housefull franchise.

Housefull 5 is a unique film to have come out of Indian cinema as it is one of the few films in the world to release in theatres with more than one ending.

The murder mystery comedy can be watched in theatres as either Housefull 5A or Housefull 5B.

Housefull 5A and Housefull 5B both have different endings and feature different killers at the end.

Here’s all you need to know about the two endings below (MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD):

In the first ending, after Julius aka Jolly 3 (Akshay Kumar) provokes everyone to kill Dagdu (Nana Patekar), the killer actually tries to go ahead with the provocation and attempts to kill the Interpol chief. However, the provocation turns out to be a trap and the killer’s identity is revealed to be Ranjeet’s son Dev (Fardeen Khan).

Upon getting caught, he tries to convince Julius and Dagdu that he ain’t the killer and is then seemingly murdered by another masked man who is eventually revealed to be *drumrolls* Jalbhushan aka Jolly 3 (Abhishek Bachchan).

After a long climactic struggle, it is then revealed that Dev and Jolly 3 were a team and it turns out Dev is alive.

The film ends with Dev and Jolly 3 getting arrested by Dagdu, Baba aka Bhiddu (Jackie Shroff) and Bhiddu aka Baba (Sanjay Dutt).

Also at the end is a surprise cameo by Bobby Deol playing the real Jolly.

In the second ending, everything unravels the same as Housefull 5A except the identity of the film killer is revealed to be Ranjeet’s company’s CFO Maya (Chitrangada Singh). Interestingly, Maya’s partner, the second killer in the story remains the same i.e. Jolly 3 (Abhishek Bachchan).

The identity of the real Jolly is also revealed to be the same as Housefull 5A i.e. Bobby Deol.

Papa Ranjeet (Ranjeet) dies of natural causes on his 100th birthday. Later, Doctor played by Akashdeep Sabir and Bedi played by Dino Morea are killed by Dev (Fardeen Khan) in Housefull 5A and by Maya (Chitrangada Singh) in Housefull 5B.

Captain Sameer (Nikitan Dheer) is killed by Jolly 3 (Abhishek Bachchan) in both the versions.

Having watched both the endings, although there is not much of a difference in the two films humourwise, but in totality, Housefull 5A works slightly better, in this writer’s opinion.
