A surprising case has come to light from the country’s capital Delhi. Here the police have arrested two people smuggling hemp under the guise of watermelon. The Anti Narcotics Task Force (AntF) of the Crime Branch of Delhi Police has seized 348.176 kg of hemp from a truck laden with watermelon under the drug -free India campaign, which is said to be around Rs 1.75 crore in the market.

According to the news agency report, the police said that the arrested accused have been identified as Intezar Malik (31) and Rizwan (32). Of these, Intezar Malik is said to be the mastermind of this smuggling racket.

He has also been arrested earlier under the NDPS Act in Andhra Pradesh. At the same time, Rizwan is a truck driver who used to work on the basis of commission and he is already warrant in a similar case. Both are residents of Loni, Ghaziabad.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Apoorva Gupta said that the hemp was being brought from Andhra Pradesh to Delhi and was kept hidden under a truck laden with watermelons.

On May 20, 2025, AntF received information that he was going to pass through Sonia Vihar in Delhi with a large amount of hemp from a truck. On this information, a team of Crime Branch was formed and the truck was stopped at Pusta Road, Sonia Vihar at around 2 pm on 21 May.

Ganja was hidden under watermelon in 17 plastic bags

First, only the truck appeared to be loaded in the truck, when the truck was searched, 17 plastic bags hidden under the watermelons were found in it. Each bag had a green leaf -like substance. There was suspicion of having green leaves, on which the FSL team was called on the spot for investigation. Investigation confirmed that that substance is hemp.

In this case, a case has been registered against the accused under the NDPS Act and sent to judicial custody. According to the police, Malik was smuggling hemp for the last four to five years and smuggling hemp from Rajmundari in Andhra Pradesh.

Rizwan was his reliable driver, who helped to secure the consignment of cannabis to Delhi. The police is now investigating this entire network in depth, so that other people involved in it can be identified and the entire supply chain can be broken.
