Telly addicts are confessing to being utterly perplexed by a mind-boggler from The 1% Club. The ITV quiz sensation, hosted by the quick-witted Lee Mack, has scooped up two National Television Awards since its 2022 debut. The format sees questions that have already been answered by members of the general public put to 100 contestants in a studio, who are each given a £1,000 stake at the beginning of the game.

Lee slings out 15 increasingly taxing teasers with a strict 30-second countdown, as hopefuls lock in answers to advance or use their pass after question ten. Those who crack the final conundrum might pocket a hefty £100,000 or carve up the jackpot while armchair players at home revel in triumph sans the cash. Nevertheless, one particular poser has sent fans into a tizzy on social media, baffling brains far and wide. Posted to Facebook it challenged: What is the next letter in this sequence? SENTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT.

The question, from a May 2022 episode, was the final one of the quiz show, meaning only 1% of the general population answered it correctly.

While a select few cracked the code, many freely acknowledged their befuddlement.

"Wouldn't get it in 30 days never mind 30 secs," one lamented.

"It's easy when you know but tricky otherwise," another mused.

"How to feel dumb on a Thursday morning," someone else wrote.

A sceptical individual remarked: "All the people answering acting like they worked it out, 100% goggled it or watched live."

One person expressed confusion, stating: "That makes no sense," while another confessed to being "lost" and sought clarification.

A frustrated commenter pleaded: "Can someone explain that this is more than just a few buzzwords? It's driving me crazy."

However, among the few who did unravel the mystery, one provided a clear explanation: "S-seventeen, E-eighteen, N-nineteen, T-twenty, Each other T represents the numbers between Twenty and Thirty Nine. Next letter is F for Forty."

Another joked about the mental effort required: "You're overworking that brain, if I was to be given my entire life to think of that I wouldn't figure it out."

A doubter also responded to a correct guess by suggesting: "They watched it on TV, maybe even Googled the answer, no one on the show got it, I was bamboozled and I have an IQ of 139."

The 1% Club is available to watch on ITVX.
