has been called out for giving a "rude" speech after losing to Coco Gauff in the French Open final. The world No. 1 took a tight opening set before suffering an emotional collapse, and on a windy afternoon in Paris.

Both players struggled in the blustery conditions, and Sabalenka as she addressed the Court Philippe-Chatrier crowd while fighting back tears. But top tennis coach Rennae Stubbs wasn't happy with the 27-year-old's comments.

"Ugh....the tennis was not that bad. You made a bazillion unforced errors because youre playing against the fastest players in the world who is as gutsy as hell and had better composure then u!!" the former doubles No. 1 tweeted immediately after Sabalenka gave her speech.

"But to say it was horrible.....ugh!!!! Damn that was rude. I said what I said."

The loss clearly hit Sabalenka hard. The 27-year-old broke down in tears when she was handed the microphone to give her speech and continued to cry as she spoke to the crowd.

Speaking through the tears, the top seed said: "Obviously guys, this one hurts so much, especially after such a tough two weeks, playing great tennis.

"To show such terrible tennis in the final really hurts. Anyway, congrats Coco, you were a better player than me."

The three-time Major winner doubled-down on her comments during her post-match press conference and suggested it was the worst final she had played.

"I have to say in the past two weeks I played really tough matches, really incredible players. Yeah, I played definitely better level than in the final," she said.

"It was really honestly the worst tennis I've played in the last, I don't know, in the last I don't know how many months.

"Conditions were terrible, and she simply was better in these conditions than me. I think it was the worst final I ever played."

Sabalenka also lost to Gauff from a set up in the 2023 US Open final and thought she didn't play well there either.

The world No. 1 added: "I think it's another tough final in the Grand Slam against Coco. Another terrible performance from me against Coco in the final.

"Yeah, I have to just kind of, like, step back and look at this from the perspective and try to finally learn the lesson, because I cannot go out there every time against her in the finals of the Grand Slam and play such terrible tennis and give those wins, not easily, but like, emotionally, you know?"
