Gone are the days when getting a driving license meant standing in long queues at government offices and dealing with endless paperwork. Thanks to the Indian government's latest digital initiative, you can now apply for your driving license from the comfort of your home, without needing to visit the RTO in person—except for the final driving test.
A driving license is an official document issued by the government that certifies you are qualified and authorized to operate a vehicle on public roads. Apart from granting you legal permission to drive, it also serves as a valid identity proof.
Driving without a license is illegal in India and may lead to heavy fines or even legal action. So if you're learning to drive or already behind the wheel, it’s crucial to get your license through the legal process.
First-time applicants must apply for a learner’s license, valid for 6 months.
You can drive during this period under the supervision of an experienced driver.
After this, you must apply for a permanent license, or you’ll need to restart the process.
