The film Thug Life has generated significant expectations as it reunites director Mani Ratnam with actor Kamal Haasan, following their iconic collaboration in the 1987 classic Nayakan. However, the film encountered a significant hurdle when it was not released in Karnataka due to ongoing disputes related to Haasan's comments about the Kannada language.
Despite the initial excitement, the audience's response has been mixed, leading to disappointing box office results. Over its first three days, the film's performance has raised concerns among its producers.
Thug Life Box Office Collection Day 3:
The film had a promising start but experienced a significant decline of 53.87% on its second day, followed by a slight recovery on the third day. Early estimates from Sacnilk.com indicate that on Day 3, the film earned approximately Rs 7.50 crore, bringing its total domestic earnings to Rs 30.15 crore. The breakdown of earnings shows Rs 15.5 crore on Day 1 and Rs 7.15 crore on Day 2, with the film performing best in Tamil, earning Rs 13.35 crore on its opening day, followed by Telugu and Hindi.
Industry analysts suggest that the film may gain traction over the extended weekend, although the ban in Karnataka is projected to result in a loss of Rs 35-40 crore in gross collections and Rs 12-15 crore in distributor shares, according to a report by a local media outlet.
The controversy began during the audio launch of Thug Life in Chennai, where Haasan paid an emotional tribute to his Tamil heritage, stating, 'Uyire Urave Tamizhe,' which translates to 'My life and my family is Tamil.' He also acknowledged Kannada superstar Shivarajkumar, emphasizing the connection between the languages.
The film features a talented ensemble cast, including Trisha, Silambarasan, Abhirami, Sanya Malhotra, Ashok Selvan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Joju George, Nassar, Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi, Rohit Saraf, and Vaiyapuri.
