A week ago, Punjab Kings pulled off a miraculous run-chase, led by captain , in the Qualifier 2 of the recently-concluded Indian Premier League 2025 against Mumbai Indians. Iyer made 87* off just 41 balls at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium, and booked his side a place in the Finals, which they unfortunately lost against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on June 3.
After the match against MI ended. all the players engaged in a customary handshake, and Iyer, while greeting Shashank Singh, was seen hurling abuses at him. Shashank has now revealed that he got abused for his casual approach in a do-or-die encounter, which could have cost them the game. He said that even though the PBKS skipper abused him, they both went out for dinner later.
“I deserve it, Iyer should have slapped me, my father didn’t speak to me till the finals. I was casual, I was walking on the beach not even in the garden. It was a crucial time, Shreyas was clear that I didn’t expect this from you, but later he took me out for dinner,” Shashank was quoted as saying by Indian Express.
The youngsters in the dressing room find him to be a chill banda: ShashankDespite being on the receiving end of harsh words from Iyer, praised his captaincy skills and told there is no better captain in world cricket at the moment, and all the youngsters find themselves at ease with Shreyas in the dressing room. Iyer is also not reluctant to take the right advices from right people, Shashank further noted.
“Whatever I have spoken to others and seen, there is no better captain than him in current times in world cricket. He gives us freedom, he treats everyone equally. No one will say, Shreyas has an attitude. The youngsters in the dressing room find him to be a chill bandaa (chill guy). Shreyas is the only captain, who has told us that if anyone has any suggestion during the game, he can come and convey it to him. If he feels it’s the right advice, he will take it. It’s rare,” the PBKS finisher said.
