BCCI bags hefty profits after 2025 Indian Premier League concludes on high note

The 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) concluded on June 3, with Royal Challengers Bengaluru winning their first-ever IPL title by defeating Punjab Kings in the final held in Ahmedabad. The tournament not only delivered on cricketing action but also proved highly profitable for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

 

One of the biggest contributors to BCCI’s revenue was the broadcast deal. The board earned ₹9,678 crore through broadcasting, which comes to around ₹130.7 crore per match. With the digital and TV rights auctioned separately, television rights were secured by Star Sports, while Viacom18, owned by Reliance Industries, acquired the digital rights.

 

In sponsorship, Tata Group extended its IPL title sponsorship deal for five years (2024–2028), valued at ₹2,500 crore. For the 2025 season, the title sponsorship amounted to ₹500 crore. Additional revenue was earned from Associate Partners such as My11Circle, Angel One, and RuPay, Strategic Timeout Partner CEAT, Official Umpire Partner Wonder Cement, and Orange & Purple Cap Partner Aramco.

Apart from broadcasting and sponsorship, matchday ticket sales added another source of income. Revenue from ticketing and in-stadia sales was shared between the franchises and the BCCI. According to the current model, BCCI retains 20% of central, sponsorship, and ticketing revenues. Additionally, it collects 12.5% of licensing revenue from each team.

 

Each franchise also receives ₹425 crore from BCCI as part of the central revenue-sharing mechanism.

 

In the 2024 financial year, reportedly earned ₹20,686 crore. This marked an increase from the ₹16,493 crore revenue reported in FY 2023. The exact figures for the 2025 season are yet to be officially released but are expected to follow a similar upward trend.

 

The 2025 season reinforced the IPL’s standing as the BCCI’s most significant source of income, with structured earnings across multiple revenue channels.
