Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) star batsman Virat Kohli has spoken openly about his deep attachment and importance towards Test cricket even after winning the team for the first time in IPL 2025. On June 3, RCB won its first IPL title after a long wait of 18 years by defeating Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 6 runs at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. After this historic victory, Virat Kohli looked very emotional.
Kohli, who recently retired from Test cricket, compared the IPL win to the Test format and described it as “one of the best moments” of his career. However, he immediately added that “it is still five places below Test cricket. I give so much importance to Test cricket and love so much.”Kohli emphasized how important it is to respect the longest format of cricket and urged the youth to honor this format.
In a conversation with former Australian cricketer Matthew Hayden, Kohli advised young players to focus on Test cricket. He said that “If you do well in Test cricket, then you go anywhere in the world, people see in your eyes and shake hands with you and say, well, you played the game very well. Therefore, if you want to earn respect in cricket all over the world, then adopt Test cricket and put your heart and soul in it. “
Kohli announced his retirement from Test cricket after representing India in 123 Tests last month, scoring 9230 runs including 30 centuries and 31 half -centuries. His comment clearly shows that even though he has said goodbye to the red ball cricket, his respect and love towards this format is still intact. In the final, Krunal Pandya was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’ for his brilliant performance (2 for 17 runs in 4 overs).
