If the traffic police suddenly removes its key during checking your bike, then this situation can be shocking for anyone. You must have often seen or heard cases where the traffic police takes out the key of the vehicle in the name of the invoice. But do they really have the right to do so? Let us tell you what is your right in this situation and what should be done.

Does the traffic police have the right to remove the key?

Under the current Motor Vehicle Act, the traffic police do not have the right to remove the key of a bike or any other vehicle under common conditions. It is considered an illegal action. Only in special circumstances – as if someone’s life can be threatened by a vehicle or there is a possibility of law and order – only then the police can do so.

If the police have removed the key, what to do?

1. Stay calm and maintain restraint:

  • The most important is that you are not emotional or angry. Talk to the police respectfully and listen to them carefully.

2. Ask the reason:

  • Humbledly ask why your key has been removed and which rules you have broken. This will clear the situation and avoid unnecessary debate.

3. If the rules are broken then fill the fine:

  • If you have violated the traffic rule, get e-challan cut and pay fine. By doing this you will be under the legal realm.

4. Complain if improper action:

If you feel that removing the key was wrong or out of authority, you can file a complaint at the nearest police station or contact the high officer such as traffic DSP. “The traffic police is not allowed to remove the key in normal condition in the Motor Vehicle Act.”

Know your rights

It is important to be aware of your rights. Follow traffic rules, but at the same time if an officer crosses his limits, then adopt a legal path.
