In what comes as good news for travellers, Hyderabad's Nehru Zoological Park will soon have India’s largest aquarium to date. Not only this, but the aquarium will feature a diverse range of fish species from Asia, Africa, and America.
This tunnel-style aquarium will let visitors get a closer look at the exotic species and give them a chance to delve deeper in marine life. As of now, the Nehru Zoological Park has 15 small aquariums which display both freshwater and marine species.
According to reports, the aquarium will be developed on a one-acre plot at an estimated cost of ₹50 crore. This special project will be carried out under a public-private partnership (PPP) model.
The zoo officials have said that unlike traditional aquarium setups, the new facility will feature a tunnel-style walk-through experience - which will give visitors the rare sensation of walking beneath a dome of water while being surrounded by exotic fish species.
The special bit? This is being developed in collaboration with multinational firms from Singapore and Australia, with expertise in large-scale aquarium installations, that are expected to work with Indian partners on the design, construction, and curation.
As per the officials, the concept is not just about scale but also about immersive design, species diversity and education. The final blueprint for the aquarium is expected to be completed by 2026.
This development comes in at a time when Hyderabad has quietly outpaced India’s Silicon Valley, Bengaluru, becoming the top choice not just for tech giants, but also for professionals. From wide roads, skyways, modern public transport (like the Metro) to dedicated tech zones like Cyberabad, Hyderabad offers infrastructure that’s not only efficient but also aesthetically futuristic.
