There is big news regarding UPSC CSE Prelims. According to media reports, the results of Union Public Service Commission Prelims 2025 can be released soon. The result will be released on the official website of the commission upsc.gov.in, from where you can check the result by filling in the roll number and other details. Let us tell you what is the marking scheme, whether there is negative marking or not, and how many marks are required to pass the prelims.

What is the cutoff

To pass the prelims of Union Public Service Commission, one has to depend on the marks of two papers, which include General Studies Paper I and General Studies Paper II. In which Paper I is a of total 200 marks. It has a total of 100 questions and 2 marks are fixed for each question. What will be the passing mark in this, it depends on the cutoff.

If we talk about Paper II, it is also of 200 marks, but the number of questions in it is less, it has a total of 80 questions and 2.5 marks are given for each question. To pass the prelims, it is necessary to get at least 33 percent marks, that is, you have to get 66 marks out of 200 in any case. Along with this, the marks of CSAT are not added to the merit ranking, but it is also necessary to pass it.

How is the cutoff decided?

For the cutoff, first of all, it is seen how many candidates have taken the exam, apart from this how many seats are vacant, and then how was the paper, difficult or easy. If we talk about an estimated cutoff, then for people of the general category it can be 89-95 marks out of 200. Apart from this, for EWS it is 85-90 marks, for OBC it is 88 to 93 marks and then for SC and ST category people it is 75 to 85 marks. If both papers are combined, then the total marks are 400, but it mostly depends on General Studies Paper I.

Are there negative marks?

The answer is yes, there is a negative marking. For example, in General Studies Paper I, which has 100 questions, 0.66 marks are deducted as negative marks, whereas in Paper II, which has a total of 80 marks, the negative mark is 0.83 per question. Now the result can come any day. Therefore, you should go to the Sangh's website and keep checking it.
